Forty years later, the thread of memory settles down and it matters little to settle the question. Certainly it was the genuine and pioneering passion of some in love with four wheels that gave life to the Piancavallo Rally. The genesis of the great international event, however, has its roots in the seventies, when the newly formed Automobile Club Pordenone gave substance to the competitive hopes of the home drivers, grouped in the legendary Pordenone Corse team, setting up the first lap of the Pordenone Valleys. It ran in 1970 and 1971, then the initial enthusiasm quickly diminished in the face of the company's economic and bureaucratic difficulties. The third edition of the race saw the light only in 1978, in a month and a half (here's the bet!) It was possible to organize a good level rallysprint, racing on the roads of Meduno and Clauzetto, replicating the following year. The conditions were now in place for a wider demonstration, it was enough just for someone to get behind the wheel. The genius of Giancarlo Predieri, president of the Piancavallo Tourist Board, “piloted” the initiative by centralizing it in the tourist resort. From 1980 a sequence of competitions started which (from 1993 to 2001) also had value for the European Championship, projecting Piancavallo into an international scenario of great prestige. Today the Automobile Club Pordenone, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and Knife Racing Maniago celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the birth of the Piancavallo Rally and the half century since the beginning of the competitions in the province of Pordenone.
